The small port overlooks the bamboo mountain and the village, and tall wind flowers at the entrance to the village are swaying in the breeze.
It is the natural community of Gyeongjeong-ri, Chuksan-myeon, the area subject to the jurisdiction of Jeong Bang-pil, the first governor of Yeonghae in the 2nd year rein(1345) of King Chungmok, the 29th King of Goryeo Dynasty......Omitted The crabs caught here resembled the bamboo and therefore were called 'snow crab'. Considering the history, this village has been dubbed as 'Authentic Snow Crab Village of Yeongdeok'.
Reading the words inscribed on the memorial, I found that the simple scenery of this village left an impression on my heart. Gyeongjeong 2-ri was the Sugu-neo-mi village. In the mid 11th century(about AD 1060), the governor of Yeonghaebu made a tour of the village. While going over the hill on horseback, he fond that the geography of this village resembled the cattle and horse cart and named this village as Chayoo(combination of Cha, meaning the cart, and Yu, meaning the 'act of going over').
The memorial rites take place during the Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival in spring beside this memorial. There is a bench in the small New Millennium Commemorative Village Wood for watching the scenic beauty of the sea and immersing yourself in deep thought and contemplation, along with the Chayujeong and 8 Pungjeong next to the stone marker(milestone). The village, selected as 'Beautiful Fishing Village by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, gives unique impression.
Authentic Snow Crab Village...What makes this village authentic? It means that there is no place better than this village to catch the snow crab. This village, famous for the snow crab catch, provides ideal habitat for snow crab. So, this place is called 'snow crab village'. Also, the snow crab is called 'daege' in Korean because it has long legs resembling the bamboo. In addition, the snow crabs caught in this village, the best habitat, have such unmatched taste that nothing can compare with. That is why this village got the name, 'Authentic Snow Crab Village'.
This snow crab has different taste and quality compared to the snow crab caught in other regions, and furthermore, this village does not receive the shipment of snow crabs from other regions. That reflects the pride and strong intention of the villagers to maintain the status and spirit of authentic snow crab village. Usually, snow crab season spans from December to May, and those caught in March and April are the most flavorful. Particularly, snow crabs caught at the last day of the month are packed with delicious flesh. Most villagers make a living by fishing. Snow crabs caught in seasons form the winter to spring are sold directly to the sliced raw fish restaurants and delivered nationwide. During the fishing off-season in summer, fishers lodge together at a house near the seaside. However, the fishing boats for catching the squids and other fish are always operated. The special products of this village include the dried sea weed, abalone, sea cucumber, sea squirt, squid, etc., as well as snow crab. Chayu Dombawi, the first rock on the seashore toward the north of Chayu village, has turned to the Gangseongdom fishing spot which is the most famous in the East Sea.
This is a place that is not well-known but ideal for the tautog fishing in a leisurely and comfortable way. You cannot miss this place to enjoy the taste of snow crab in this village, the original place for authentic snow crab. This is the beautiful village selected by Yeongdeok, offering the real taste of snow crab. - Yeongdeok Blue Road~ It is the pride of Yeongdeok that has the most beautiful coastlines along the Blue Road Course II, and represents the landmark of Yeongdeok.
It provides abundant experiences, including the bed and breakfast(private rental service) in fishing village, ship fishing, ship boarding, snow crab catching, sea weed collection and drying, barnacle experience, net fish trapping, forest bathing(green shower/forest therapy) in coastal promenade, bare-hand fishing using the seafood that are recently caught in abundance.
