Mt. Daeso Bongsudae

Mt. Daeso Bongsudae(Gyeongbuk Monument No. 37) The ridge of Yeongdeok, where the wind is swirling, shows the fierce life of the ancestors.

Mt. Daeso is the mountain behind Chuksan-ri of Chuksan-myeon, and Sajin-ri and Goesi-ri of Yeonghae-myeon. Located near the sea, this mountain as high as 278m offers panoramic view from Jukdosan observatory. In clear sky, the Jukdosan observatory provides the view of 7-8 low mountains behind the Mt. Daeso, which look like the cards piled up on each other toward the East Sea.

Mt. Daeso owes its fame to Bongsudae at the top of mountain. Mt. Daeso Bongsudae was one of the communication mode in Joseon Dynasty, and its relics are preserved in a particular way. This Bongsudae signified the situations of Chuksanpo of Yeongdeok. The communication network of Bongsudae comprised of the Byeolbansan Bongsudae of Yeongdeok to the south(within the wind farm), Gwangsan Bongsudae to the west, Hurisan Bongsudae of Hupo to the north, and Namgaksan Bongsudae of Jinbo and Namsan(capital city) of Hanyang. Currently, only the relics of Bongsudae have been preserved. However, Mt. Daeso Bongsudae site has been preserved in the best conditions to date.

The road to Mt. Daeso Bongsudae has been the shortcut from Chuksan to Yeonghae for a long time. In addition, the Mt. Daeso is one of the hidden tourist attractions for the sunrise in Yeongdeok. Unlike the Chuksan Port and Mt. Jukdo, Mt. Daeso is difficult to climb, which is why this mountain has remained a hidden tourist attraction.

Mt. Daeso is the first transit area in Yeongdeok Blue Road connecting from Ganggu Port to Goraebul Beach, particularly in Blue Course C behind the Chuksan Port. Although you can hop in the car, there is the milestone indicating the Bongsudae and Yeongmyeongsa along the road. So, it would be a good walking tour experience to climb on foot. It is not difficult to find. You will find Yeongmyeongsa if you walk about 500m toward Yeonghae along the national highway no. 20 from Yeomjang crossroad.

Then, forest road will appear that is connected to Mt. Daeso Bongsudae. It stretches about 2km from Yeongmyeongsa to Bongsudae. The pavement of the forest road is in good condition, but you need to be careful because the road is narrow. Bongsudae is the communication facility, using the smoke in the daytime and torchlight at night on top of mountain as high as Mt. Daeso, to cope with emergency, transmit important information and notify the central government of the situation related to the frontier.

Mt. Daeso Bongsudae is said to have been built on the seacoast southeast of Yeongdeok in early Joseon Dynasty. Bongsudae has the shape of burial mount. The bulwark is built with stones, and the fortress is built in a conical shape with the diameter of 11m and height of 2.5m.

Mt. Daeso Bongsudae, which provides an insight into the communication modes of Joseon Dynasty, was designated as Momument No. 37 by Gyeongsangbuk-do. This Bongsudae provides the panoramic view of Chuksan Port and picturesque beauty of the East Sea at a far distance.
