There are two ways to Goraebul Beach. The first way is driving straight after passing through Daejin. Then, you will have the premonition of vast and desolate scenery and see the inspiring scenery of the sea on the right side. The comfortable and odd feeling that you are headed for the best place of Yeongdeok with cool breeze... You will be thrilled by the profound scent from the pine grove with the scent of sea and the unobstructed view. Now, you are in front of Goraebul. Take a deep breath and get close to it. The second way to Goraebul Beach is entering the Deokcheon Beach featuring the modern landscape. If you walk along the pine trees and sandy beach, you will reach Goraebul Beach unawares. Both ways are recommended. The difference is only whether you drive or walk. The scenic beauty of nature is never boring, and there seems to be no choice.
9 sceneries, 9 tastes, and 9 experiences. Goraebul is the only beach among the 9 tourist attractions of Yeongdeok, and is one of the 9 sceneries. It is the place for ultra-lightweight aircraft experience, namely Yeongdeok Sky Experience, and offers one of the 9 wonderful experiences in Yeongdeok. Goraebul Beach is mentioned in the episode of Lee Saek in relation to the toponym of "Goraebul". Also, Goraebul Beach is included in Myeongsa 20-ri Story as its sandy beach measuring 8km in length is the longest in the East Sea, The Chamgiin story says that it takes one and a half hour to walk from the starting point to the ending point of the shore. In addition to the Yongbawi story, Goraebul Beach has an unlimited stories to be unfold. It is the most prominent beach of Yeongdeok covering the six coastal villages adjacent to Byeonggok-myeon. The unhampered view of the seashore is amazingly vast. You will be overwhelemed by the scenery and your jaw will drop open. People say that only four things come into their sight. They are the sea, sand pine forest, and sky. Also, you will feel very refreshed and find your true self. This is a story that everyone knows, but we cannot skip it.
Mokeun Lee Saek, who was born in Yeonghae-myeon, climbed to the Gwaneodae which was called, 'Mt. Sangdae' during his childhood. He saw the whale blowing a jet of spray high in the coastal waters before the sandy beach, and named the place as Goraebul which means the field where the whales swim leisurely. For a while, I wondered how the name given by a young boy has become the toponym of this place. Anyway, they call the Deokcheon Beach and Yeongri Beach(located over the Daejin Beach) altogether as "Goraebul Beach". Goraebul is also said to be famous for the sea-fishing of snapper and spipefish. So, I wonder how significant meaning the Goraebul has in Yeongdeok. As the 8km-long sandy beach is connected inwardly like a bow, both ends of the beach can be viewed at a glance.
Mysteriously, the sand particles on the seashore of Yeongdeok are thick and do not stick to body easily. The sand particles are thick like the gravels, and have wonderful golden color without stickiness. It is quite convincing that the sand bath at this place improves health. It seems that those treading on sands here would have the profound and mysterious feeling. The touch of sand still lingers on my feet even one or two days later. The seaside below the Ganggu Port is the sand beach on the southeastern coast and is said to have much better sands compared to this place. There seems to be the reason that makes certain tourist attractions more famous.
The glittering Music Fountain which is jetting the water gorgeously has emerged as a new spectacle in the middle of Goraebul Beach. This Fountain has been a significant attraction that help make the vast Goraebul Beach even more famous. If you feel that the Beach is too vast and difficult to find, you can look for this Music Fountain blending harmoniously with the gigantic whale landscaping. Goraebul Music Fountain, which plays the sonata of the broad sea and night with the most romantic color, adds fun and gives the memorable traveling experience in the seashore.
The dazzling Goraebul Music Fountain show can be seen at least three times a day: 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30.
Held from late July to early August, features various exciting seaside activities, including squid-catching, roundnose flounder-catching, veneridae clam gathering contest, in parallel with the stage performances.
Goraebul Beach Festival is a large-scale event and runs for three days. If you have any experience of raising eyebrow at the wicked sellers ripping off the tourists during the season of summer exodus, you can come to this Goraebul Beach Festival and participate in various discount events held as part of the Festival.
Songcheongang Runway spreads out toward the inland area from Yeonghae Rotary. This is the event site for the 5th National Aerial Sports Competition(Yeongdeok Sky Experience Competition). To start with the gorgeous air show of ultra-lightweight aircraft, about 30 airplanes fly over Goraebul, Daejin, Jangsa Beach, and Osipcheon area in a free formation, creating a pleasantly surprising spectacle.
