Seok-ri

Seok-ri

It is the part of Dong-myeon, Yeongdeok precinct during Joseon Dynasty.
The first record of Seok-ri is found in "Gyeongsang-do Sokchan-Jiriji(Revised Gyeongsang Province Monograph)" which indicates Seok-ri as Seokmyeonpo.
Meanwhile, Seok-ri consists of Dol-myeon, Yejin Yuk/Hae-ri according to the Population Census published in 1789.
Under the administrative district integration in 1914 during the Japanese colonial rule, Yejin-ri and Dolmyeon-ri were merged and renamed to Seok-dong, connoting the presence of many stones, and incorporated into Obo-myeon.
Seok-dong was incorporated into Yeongdeok-myeon again when the administrative districts changed on April 1, 1934.
The seaside along the mountain ridge, the center of this village, is called "Yejin" and the inland valley side is called "Dolmyeon".
