Geumho-ri

Geumho-ri

Geumho-ri, located at Jungnam-myeon, was called Geomu-ri, Geomu or Geomho, Geodong, or Geumdong during Joseon Dynasty.
A large stream was formed beside the Osipcheon Stream.
This large stream was called Geomu-ri or Geomu, and changed its name to Chinese toponym.
Usually, 'Geo' means 'large', and 'Mu' means the rice paddy with abundant water.

The toponym of Geum-ri, which is considered to correspond to current Geumho-ri, is found in "Yeongdeok-gun Eup-ji of Gyeongsangbuk-do" which was published in late 1890s.
There is no record found in the Population Census published earlier in 1789.
However, the toponym of Sanggeom can be found in Yeong-yeong-seum-ram published in 1935.
Its current toponym is Geumho-dong after the integration of Samgeum-dong, Hageum-dong, Dunjeon, and some parts of Sowol-ri under the Administrative district rearrangement in 1914.
Subsequently, it was incorporated in Yeongdeok-myeon and became part of Ganggu-myeon with the formation of Ganggu-myeon on April 1, 1934.
