Originally, it was called 'Butgae' or 'Changpo' as it is the estuary with abundant irises in full bloom, and consisted of Changpo-Yuk-ri & Hae-ri, and Dangsadong-ri according to the Population Census published in 1789. it was renamed to Changpo-dong under the Administrative district rearrangement in 1914, and become part of Obo-myeon.
It was incorporated into Yeongdeok-myeon again on April 1, 1934, and currently, it belongs to Yeongdeok-eup.
